about work

I am Jie Li, a product designer with 10 years of professional experience currently working at Amazon, based in Seattle.

Coming from a strong background in Engineering and Design, I thrive by solving ambiguous problems and building V1 products in a collaborative environment. I’ve designed products in a wide range of domain areas including – health & wellness, devices, shopping, and enterprise data visualizations.

Design strength

Thrive in ambiguity

I specialize in building 0-1 products with complex user flows and rich data. I see ambiguity as an opportunity to shape the product direction. I work backward from data, create hypotheses, define solutions, test to gather insights. I create a shared understanding among stakeholders by organizing brainstorms, leading workshops, and presenting.

Collaboration & Influence

My multidisciplinary background enables me to have a better understanding of what my cross-functional partners value and their objectives.
With the understanding of those, the design not only delights users but is better received by stakeholders. Moreover, it brings significant business impact.

System Thinking

In addition to my strong commitment to delivering a delightful experience under time constraints and resource constraints, I am also a proactive system thinker who always focuses on delivering scalable design frameworks and UI patterns that work end-to-end as well as in the long term.

“A Product Manager’s dream UX designer, Jie is known for strong commitment to deadlines, great communication, and thorough documentation. All of which leaves you confident that a complex program is on the rails when Jie is owning it. I had the pleasure of managing Jie for over 2 years while she was a Sr. UX Designer for Amazon Halo. Her broad talents allow her to work end-to-end from information architecture, to wire framing, to prototyping and user testing, to UI design, and even visual design. To future proof her designs and technical implimentations, she always thinks beyond the immediate scope and advocates for building in scalable ways. I highly recommend Jie for any team needing a strong Sr. UX Designer to own their top priorities.”

– Sr. manager of UX and Research at Amazon

Projects

Halo Rise

Successfully launched the latest Halo contactless sleep tracking device in 2022. As the design lead, I owned end-to-end CX spanning the Halo app, hardware, the Alexa app, and Echo devices. I oversaw the project from initial concepts to implementation in 1.5 years while working with 50+ cross-org stakeholders.

Halo Insights

Led design of health insights as part of Amazon Halo launch in 2020. Increased CSAT (customer satisfaction) from 5.3 to 5.5 (out of 7). A year later, I led a longitudinal study and 2 brainstorms to shape the future product strategy for Insights.

Amazon Retail

Led and owned the end-to-end Customer Q&A experience that encompasses multiple customer touchpoints on Amazon.com Desktop and mobile app, with millions of users in 14 countries.

Alexa Sleep

I designed Amazon’s first multimodal CX in the health domain through a collaboration project between Alexa and Halo. This experience empowers users to learn about their health through interacting with Alexa anywhere and anytime.

Qumulo Core

As one of the two funding designers, I designed multiple features and data viz for the enterprise software Qumulo Core, which was launched to thousands of enterprise customers in 2016.
